Okay, I'll admit it. You can't get abs fast. No matter how many gimmick commercials and late night infomercials want to promise you ridiculous results in 10 minutes a day for a month it DOES NOT make it true!
The bottom line is getting abs takes a lot of hard work. Not only sit ups and crunches, but a strick diet and a lot of cardio. To get those washboard abs you have been dreaming about you have to get rid of that layer of fat on top. The best way to do that is through diet and a lot of cardio everyday. Doing crunches and ab exercise does build muscle, but you can't see it with fat on top of it.
So how do you really get abs? Start by increasing your cardio. Run at least 3-4 times a week for at least 30 minutes. Next, adjust your diet. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and cut out junk foods, soda, and wasted calories (like beer). Finally, continue doing those core workouts. Over the next couple of months, as your body fat levels approach 10% or so (varies according sex and body type) you will start to see those abdominal muscles.
Tip: Work your entire body, the more muscle you have the more calories and fat your body will burn naturally, thus helping those abs reveal themselves.
Good luck!
